Straight answers to the questions people ask us most about retirement, investing and how we work.
What does fee-only mean?
Fee-only means we’re not paid through commissions. Our compensation is based on the assets we manage, so our interests are aligned with yours. When you do better, we do better.
What is a fiduciary?
A fiduciary is required to act in your best interest. As a registered investment adviser, we owe that duty to every client. Our recommendations are made to fit your situation specifically.
Who do you work with?
While many of our clients have $500,000 or more in investable assets, we also offer strategies for those with less. Finding the right advisor involves more than account size. Shared values, personal trust and a good working relationship are just as important.
That’s why we encourage an introductory conversation. It’s an opportunity to get to know each other, discuss your goals and decide whether we’re a good fit.
Where are you located?
We’re based in Milton, Florida, and we meet with clients across the Florida Panhandle, including Pensacola, Pace, Gulf Breeze, Navarre, Destin, Fort Walton Beach and Crestview. We also have deep roots across Missouri and the St. Louis area, and we currently work with many clients nationwide by phone and video. Telewealth is a growing part of what we do, so no matter where you live, we can likely serve you as if you were right in town.
How do you help make retirement income last?
We look at what you spend, when each income source starts, and which accounts to draw from first. Then we build an investment plan around those needs, with money set aside for near-term spending so a market drop doesn’t force you to sell at the wrong time.
Do you prepare taxes or give tax advice?
No. We don’t prepare tax returns or give tax advice. We do practice tax-sensitive investing, which means we pay attention to how withdrawals, Roth conversions and required minimum distributions affect your plan, and we’re happy to work alongside your CPA.
When should I claim Social Security?
It depends on your health, your other income, your spouse’s benefit and how long you expect to need income. Waiting increases your monthly check, but it isn’t right for everyone. We walk through the tradeoffs as part of your overall income plan.
How much do your services cost?
Our fees are generally based on a percentage of the assets we manage and can vary depending on each client’s needs, circumstances and the services provided. We believe in transparent, straightforward pricing with no hidden commissions or sales charges.
During an introductory call, we’ll discuss your needs, explain our fee structure and help you understand what working with us would cost. There’s no obligation, and our fees are fully disclosed in our Form ADV Part 2A.
What happens on the first call?
It’s a free 15-minute conversation where we get to know each other. We’ll talk about your financial goals, needs and concerns, and you’ll have a chance to ask questions about our firm and how we work. We’ll ask a few questions of our own to help decide whether we’re a good fit for each other.
The goal is simple: to see whether we can help and whether you’d feel comfortable working with us. There’s no cost, no pressure and no obligation.
